Till 2007, traditional system of waste disposal was being followed in the President's Estate. The waste generated was collected and transported to the NDMC land-fill sites. With the advent of Roshni, a waste generation system was put in place with the active support of NDMC. The residents were trained in segregating the bio-degradable (organic) and non-biodegradable waste generated in their houses and the system of door-to-door collection of waste was put in place. In the first phase of the programme, residents were provided with two specially designed waste bins for segregation of waste. Six Twin-bin rickshaws were provided for ensuring segregation at the collection stage as well.
The bio-degradable waste so generated is composted and the organic manure generated is used in the President's Gardens.

IMPACT ASSESSMENT - GENERATION OF ORGANIC COMPOST
300-400 Kilograms of organic/kitchen waste is composted per day. Approximately 4200 kilograms of organic manure produced annually.
President's Gardens utilize the organic compost manure produced in-house.
